Birds need a strong gene pool to be healthy. Inbreeding leads to genetic deficiencies. Our birds are managed carefully.

We share ancestry data with partner zoos to ensure animals paired create a strong gene pool

To maintain the genetic health of our resident colony of Bali Starlings, leading Australian zoologist Chris Hibbard set up a breeding facility.

We have exchanged birds from our colony with zoos from Germany, Java, Singapore, The UK the Czech Republic, & elsewhere.
